What To Expect: Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is one of the most effective and gentlest methods used for permanently reducing unwanted hair from practically any part of your body. Here at Central Wyoming Skin Clinic, our dermatologists, Dr. Scott Bennion and Dr. Mathew Green, offer this treatment at each of our offices in Gillette, Laramie, and Casper, WY. Read on to learn more!
What to Expect During Your Laser Hair Removal Session
You will need to shave the hair off of the area to be treated several days before your first appointment. During the day of the treatment, you may or may not be given a topical anesthetic depending on your pain tolerance. Likewise, a cool gel, spray, or laser tip may be utilized to make the session more comfortable for you, depending on what kind of laser will be used for the procedure.
The laser will be adjusted and tested on the treatment site. This is done to make certain that the laser’s power, pulse frequency, and size is optimized for maximum results and your comfort. Once the laser device has been properly calibrated, the laser energy will be targeted on each hair follicle on the treatment site by utilizing a handheld laser device. Most patients say that there’s little to no pain and discomfort during each laser hair removal session, which varies in length according to the treatment area’s size.
What to Expect After Your Laser Hair Removal Session
While patients can go about their normal daily activities right after the procedure, expect to experience some redness and swelling during the first 24 hours after your laser hair removal session. According to patients, this discomfort is similar to a mild sunburn. You can easily ease these symptoms by applying ice, aloe lotions/gels, or anti-inflammatory creams. Approximately four-to-six weeks following your first laser hair removal session, you’ll return to one of our offices in Laramie, Gillette, or Casper, WY, for your second session, and so on, until you’ve completed all the recommended number of sessions.
Expect to experience some hair growth until the laser hair removal treatment does its magic. However, you will begin to see significant hair reduction after your first session. Likewise, most patients report up to 90% of hair growth reduction. Take note though that while you’ll definitely enjoy permanent results with laser hair removal, some people may require occasional touchup treatments for stubborn, individual hairs.
